About Hetrick Design

Design that brings order to chaos and peace in every space.

I am a Certified Professional Building Designer specializing in residential design, including custom homes, additions, and renovations. My approach balances thoughtful design with real-world constructability—ensuring each home is both well-designed and practical to build.

My foundation began early, working alongside my father, a residential carpenter and builder. From a young age, I developed an eye for proportion and a strong understanding of how buildings are put together, which led me to pursue training in architectural drafting and later earn a degree in Construction Management.

Early in my career, I worked in construction coordination roles supporting project teams through various phases of construction. This gave me a clear understanding of how decisions on paper impact what happens in the field.

I later worked as a BIM Coordinator on complex federal projects, including U.S. embassies, where I helped identify and resolve building system conflicts early in the design process.

Today, I approach every project with a focus on clear, well-coordinated drawings—so key decisions are resolved during design, not left for the builder to figure out in the field. This helps reduce costly changes and keeps projects moving smoothly.

At the same time, I believe a home should feel peaceful—shaped with care, clarity, and purpose. My work focuses on creating well-proportioned spaces that not only function well, but feel right to live in.

Principles of proportion and order—such as the Golden Ratio—have long been used to create visually balanced design. Found throughout nature and classical architecture, these ideas guide how I approach proportion and composition in every home.

For me, design is an act of stewardship—reflecting the order and beauty found in God’s creation. I strive to create homes that are timeless, carefully considered, and built with integrity.
